RC Car Project
Objective
Design and fabricate a remote control car from the ground up under a budget of $50 that can complete three laps around a race track as fast as possible.
Keywords
- Car Design
- Motion, Finite Element, and Fluid Analysis
- 3D Printed Construction
Results
Utilized Solidworks to design a RC car from scratch while conducting a finite element, fluid, and motion analysis at each design step. The final design template is seen below.
The car had a top speed of 13 meters per second (30 mph) and was able to sustain a crash while racing. Using a loading fatigue analysis on the drivetrain shaft, a factor of safety of 15 was calculated. A stress test was also conducted to determine the factor of safety of the supporting aluminum under-rails which was 6.5. The final version of the car is seen below.
